The music world is mourning the loss of Jennifer Finch, the influential bassist of pioneering rock band L7, who passed away on Saturday following a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was 59.
L7 confirmed Finch’s death in a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram, paying tribute to their longtime bandmate, friend, and creative force.

Battle With Brain Cancer
Earlier this month, Finch publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. While doctors initially believed radiation treatment would be sufficient, complications led to multiple surgeries that resulted in significant physical limitations and the need for extensive medical care.
Her health battle forced her to step away from the U.S. leg of L7’s Last Hurrah Tour. Despite her condition, Finch encouraged her bandmates to continue performing without her.
Her battle with brain cancer came years after she successfully fought thyroid cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2011.
A Lasting Musical Legacy
L7 formed in 1985, with Jennifer Finch joining the band in 1987. Her energetic stage presence and distinctive bass playing became an essential part of the band’s identity throughout its rise during the late 1980s and 1990s.
She performed on several of the band’s most influential releases before departing in 1996 to focus on her personal life and sobriety following the death of her father.
Outside of L7, Finch continued her creative journey by performing with OtherStarPeople and The Shocker, founding Little Pusher Records, and building a respected career as a photographer. She reunited with L7 in 2015 and appeared on the band’s 2019 album, Scatter the Rats.
