SALISBURY, N.C. — Livingstone College is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Gabriella Muñoz, a rising junior from Katy, Texas, and a cherished member of the Blue Bear softball program, whose passing has deeply impacted the campus community.
The college also clarified that reports claiming Gabriella passed away on the Livingstone College campus are false. According to the institution, Gabriella died while in Texas, away from campus. Officials have asked the public to refrain from sharing inaccurate information or speculation out of respect for her family and the college community.
Remembering Gabriella Muñoz
Gabriella proudly wore No. 55 for the Livingstone Blue Bears softball team, serving as a versatile utility player known for her determination, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her teammates.
While she earned admiration for her athletic abilities, those who knew Gabriella say she will be remembered most for her joyful personality, gentle spirit, and genuine kindness. Her infectious smile, positive attitude, and compassionate heart left a lasting impression on teammates, coaches, classmates, faculty, staff, and friends.
Excellence in the Classroom
Gabriella was equally outstanding in her academic pursuits.
During the 2025–2026 academic year, she earned Dean’s List honors in both semesters, maintaining a 4.0 GPA each semester and an impressive 3.75 cumulative GPA. Her dedication to academic excellence also earned her recognition as a Livingstone College Board of Trustees Scholarship recipient.
She exemplified the true meaning of a student-athlete, balancing the demands of collegiate athletics with exceptional academic achievement while demonstrating humility, discipline, and grace.
Coach Pays Tribute
Livingstone College Softball Head Coach Steve Wallace reflected on Gabriella’s lasting impact on the program, saying:
“I am completely heartbroken by the passing of Gabriella. She was a complete joy to have as a part of the program. A great athlete and an even better student. The program will miss her immensely and her absence will be felt.”
