The Jersey Shore community is mourning the tragic loss of a swimmer who died Friday following a rescue operation off the coast of Sea Isle City.
According to local officials, the incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. on July 17 when the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol responded to reports of a man who had gone underwater while swimming in the ocean.
Beach patrol members and other emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and were able to remove the swimmer from the water. Life-saving measures were immediately performed before the man was transported to a nearby hospital for additional medical care.
Despite the efforts of rescuers and medical personnel, the swimmer was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased as they work to notify family members. Officials have also not disclosed additional details about what may have caused the incident.
